Is it the end of the world as we know it?

...from the prophecy in Joel. So in actuality, this blood red moon is only really spoken of twice. What's more interesting, and also a little bit of a death knell for this blood moon theology, is that in Acts 2 when Peter is quoting the prophecy in Joel, he doesn't say that this is some far-off future event that is irrelevant to those whom he is speaking, but that it was being fulfilled right there and then. This is the problem when you chop bible verses out of context and then build doctrines on it; you have to "conveniently" ignore other parts of scripture, sometimes even parts of the same paragraph! Let's break down Acts 2 a little and show you what I mea...

The Coming of Jesus: Coming on the clouds

...ence to a prophecy in the book of Daniel in which Daniel see's one who 'looks like a son of man' (ie. a person with a human form) 'coming with the clouds of heaven' which has all sorts of implications that we often miss by either not knowing much of the Old Testament, or because we're not Jewish with a better understanding of these prophecies. As a small note too, it's also these visions of Daniel that Revelation in the New Testament takes a lot of its imagery from and describes the same events – I will be touching on that more in the next part in this series. Often times, our thoughts on these phrases or this kind of prophetic language, is coloured by our u...

The Coming Kingdom of the Son of Man

...Daniel's prophecy (Daniel 9:20-27), which his Jewish audience would have understood. Matthew's Gospel was written to a Jewish community, and so keeps this language: "So when you see the desolating sacrilege standing in the holy place, as was spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains..." (Matt 24:15)   Whereas Luke's Gospel was written by a Gentile, to Gentiles, and thus clarifies certain things so that non-Jews will understand, such as what that the “desolating sacrilege” is: "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near. Then those in Ju...

Lent: Day 14 - Justin Martyr: First Apology, Chaps. 24-35

...atus from prophecy This chapter, and the ones that follow, aim to defend the true power and status of Christ, and dismiss the claim that Jesus performed his “mighty works by magical art, and by this appeared to be the Son of God”, and was thus only a mere man empowered by demons. To do this, Justin gives a very brief look at the prophets of old who foretold of this coming, healing power and that he would die and rise again, saying that He was foretold by all the major prophets down through the generations, and specifically prophesied about coming by Moses, “the first of the prophets”. After giving a brief overview of Jesus’ birth and how it fulfills...

Four Blood Moons and everyone loses their minds

...od Moons" prophecy While it does seem quite coincidental that certain major events in Jewish history have happened during these lunar eclipses, I won't completely discount that this might be more than just coincidental timing, as Gen 1:14-15 does state that the celestial bodies are made by God for "signs and for seasons" and as ways to track time, but I won't hold my breath for "Armageddon" or the Second Coming, as Hagee expects. This time, Hagee suggests that a Rapture will occur where Christians will be taken to heaven, Israel will go to war in a great battle called Armageddon, and Jesus will return to earth. Hagee planned a special televised event o...
